Jio apps pip WhatsApp, Facebook on Google Play

Ever since the announcement of the Jio tariff plans bundled with absolutely free local and roaming calls and incredibly cheap data plans, the landscape of the Indian telecom sector has transformed rather dramatically. The competition in the telecom sector has elevated to the new heights. However, nothing seems as lofty as the offerings of Reliance Jio at this time. We will have to wait and see how the things pan out and whether Reliance network will be able to keep up with the surge in the users. But that is for the future. At this time, Reliance Jio is stirring things up in the Indian telecom industry quite aggressively.

But it’s not just the other telecom giants like Vodafone, Idea and Airtel that have taken the beating from Jio; the international apps have also borne the brunt. It has been reported that the extremely famous messaging app WhatsApp and social networking app Facebook have been outstripped by the Reliance Jio app in terms of downloads over the last few days in India.

7 of the top 10 apps installed in India from the Google Play store are from Reliance Jio. One of the most downloaded apps WhatsApp found itself at the third position. On the other hand, Facebook could only manage the 12th position.

As expected, the principal app of Reliance Jio, called MyJio, took the top spot. The one to follow MyJio and to secure the second position was JioCinema. This was revealed by the Google Play’s top charts ranking.

The other apps to be featured in top 10 are Jio TV, JioNet, JioJoin, JioMusic, and Jio Mags at the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and the 10th spot respectively. MyJio was the most downloaded app with over 10 million downloads. The other apps have been downloaded more than one million times.

But the story doesn’t end here. Among the top 15 most downloaded from Google Play Store, only 4 belonged to other developers. This means that 11 apps were from the Jio Family. If we take 20 most downloaded apps into picture, 12 were from Jio.

It doesn’t look like that Reliance is going to stop spreading the wings of Jio anytime soon. Besides the telecom and digital services app, Jio has also come up with an online shopping app called AJIO. The users can buy fashion items such as clothes, accessories, and jewelleries through this app. The app currently features a number of domestic as well as international brands.

It’s only been a week since Reliance announced its Jio plans offering free voice calls and exceptionally cheap data plans. The announcement has caused quite a commotion in the telecom industry of India. With so much to get by paying so little, everyone is flocking towards Jio. There are separate plans for prepaid and postpaid. However, free voice calls and cheap data is something that common among all the plans. The data could be as cheap as INR 25 per GB. Even the broadband services do not provide such cheap data.
