Reliance has shaken up the telecom industry with the introduction of its ultra cheap data plans and absolutely free voice calls all over India (local as well as roaming). Reliance has all but made the other companies wake up from the slumber and start devising new strategies. But, for now, it seems like one great piece of news for the customers as they can expect all other providers to slash the data and voice prices. However, as a customer, you may still have a lot of questions as to how to get the Jio SIM card and how to get the 3-month free data offer. Here is a quick look into it.
Getting the Jio SIM card
If you are looking for the easiest way to get the Jio connection, you may want to go to Reliance Retail and pick one of its phones from the Lyf range. Many may say that the phones aren’t too great but they sure are quite cost effective with the cheapest one being up for grab for INR 3,000. The phone comes with free and totally unlimited data for three months. Looks like a pretty good deal!
But, if that is not the way you want to go, you can get a free Jio 4G SIM for preview. But for that you will need to buy one of the company approved phones. Here is what you need to do:
- Go to PlayStore on your Android phone; download and install MyJio app
- Open the app and select the button titles ‘Get Jio SIM’ right on the banner
- Select ‘Agree & Get Jio Offer.’
- Choose your location from the dropdown menu
- Read the instructions and then tap on ‘Next’
- You can see the offer code as well as the barcode on the screen
- Take your phone to the Reliance Digital Store and show them the barcode
- You will get your Jio 4G SIM
A snag had been reported in the Jio app that allowed just about everyone who had a 4G phone to bring up the barcode. Although Reliance claims to have taken care of the issues but the representatives at the Reliance Store still seem to be wary about it.
There is another way to get the Jio SIM. You can buy the WiFi hotspot router call JioFi available for INR 2,899.
3-month free data offer
To get the 3-month free data you will need to buy one of the Lyf range phones. These phones are available at the Reliance Retail Store. This plan is not available with the free 4G preview SIM.
Activating your Jio SIM card
You can get the SIM activated just like any other normal SIM. For verification purposes you will need to provide your photo ID, address proof, and the passport size recent photographs.
Once you have provided the documents within 48 hours you will be called on your phone to verify the connection. The caller will provide certain instructions, which you can follow to activate the phone.
